Who doesn’t love an easy getaway? It’s the perfect opportunity to relax and have some fun without all the hassle of planning a massive trip. And that’s exactly what I did recently. Last month I decided to visit the Finger Lakes and stay at The Lake House on Canandaigua once again. You might remember my review from last year, but I was super excited to be back in warmer weather. And let me tell you, the same resort provided two totally different – yet amazing – experiences!
I arrived early in the afternoon, and decided to stash my things away and walk around while I waited for one of my girlfriend’s to arrive. The Library is the perfect place to stop in and grab a quick drink. If you want to sit for a while, you can take in the cozy ambiance or even play some games! I initially opted to take my drink up to my private patio and read, but later tried to be amongst the action and settled into one of the adirondack chairs outside of the main lobby. I say tried because I was too occupied with people watching and taking in the beautiful views of the lake. Can you say peaceful?!

My friend arrived later in the evening and we headed straight to Rose Tavern! I was starving at this point, and we decided to try a bit of everything! Rose Tavern is a rustic, seasonal menu – and inspired by the Finger Lakes region. During our visit we opted for the Bay Scallop Chowder (delicious), Coconut Risotto (courtesy of the chef!), Beef Tenderloin, Pappardelle Ragu with Lamb, and of course – a round of House Fries. Our dessert was the Chocolate Bouchon and it did not disappoint.
If it’s on the menu, I highly recommend the Taste of Oaxaca cocktail! It’s a mix of Aperol, Mezcal, and lime, and so tasty. I hadn’t had a cocktail like that before, and even tried making it once I arrived back home! We also decided to end the night with some Espresso Martini’s.

Our next day at The Lake House on Canandaigua was my absolute favorite – and that’s because most of it was spent at the pool! The best part? It’s heated all year-round! We grabbed a delicious breakfast sandwich and some coffee at The Library, and then spent the next few hours hopping in and out of the pool and jacuzzi. The temperature wasn’t bad, but having everything heated made the experience that much more enjoyable! We ended up meeting a lovely family who was also from Cleveland and exchanged numbers! Small world, right?
The pool having direct views of Canandaigua Lake makes for such a relaxing, peaceful, and breathtaking time. You can hop in the pool and then take in the lake from the loungers. I can’t think of anything that sounds better! I’m hoping to visit when it’s really warm and actually adventure out onto the water!

That afternoon we ended up exploring the Finger Lakes region a bit more, and hitting a nearby thrift store and winery. Once we arrived back at The Lake House on Canandaigua, we got dressed for dinner at Sand Bar. I love this spot because it’s more casual and laid back, and typically has a fun crowd gathered at the bar! This time there was a celebration happening, which really made it lively. We were so lucky to witness the most perfect sunset mid-dinner, and practically the entire restaurant walked outside to capture pictures and take it in!
While at Sand Bar, my friend and I decided to split the Four Cheese Crab Dip, which was totally heavenly. For dinner she chose the Faroe Island Salmon with Tomato Fondue and Gnocchi, and I satisfied my craving for something hearty with the Sand Bar Cheeseburger and Fries. I love that it came with Thousand Island dressing! As for dessert, we were graciously given the House Made Donut with Ice Cream and let me tell you – it’s absolutely fantastic! I’m still thinking about that donut, in fact.

Our next morning was checkout day, but we made the most of it with another trip to the pool! We quickly grabbed another bite to eat and cup of coffee from The Library, before heading to the water. We once again met some more lovely people, and ended up chatting the entire time. I just love how friendly and warm everyone is!
I was so sad to leave, but had the most wonderful time! The staff was amazing and kind, and extremely attentive. The beautiful decor and ambiance of the resort really makes it somewhere you want to stay for an extended period of time, and not just a weekend! My friend also fell in love and has recommended The Lake House on Canandaigua to her inner circle. I’m definitely already counting down the days till my next visit!
