What to Read Vol. 2

It’s been quite a while since I shared a reading list, but this year I’ve been trying to do more things that make me happy, and reading is one of my greatest joys! There’s something about escaping the daily grind of reality, and escaping into a different world… anyone else agree?

So far in 2017 I’ve read one and a half books (currently reading The Butterfly Garden which I’m going to talk about very shortly) and The Girl on the Train. I sped through reading that book in one weekend because I wanted to watch the movie, and let me tell you – I wasn’t impressed by either (especially the movie)!! If you’ve read it, let me know below what you thought, and let’s dive into this month’s reading list!

  1. The Butterfly Garden – I’m about halfway through this book and I really like it! The book immediately starts with kidnapped girls being rescued from the “Garden,” where the killer has a fascination with tattooing butterflies across the backs of the girls. I find the main character to be really interesting, and while I’m not a huge fan of flashback scenes, the author really makes the transitions seamless and the vivid details makes you feel as if you’re right there!
  1. How to Murder Your Life – As a 22 year-old who loves Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Marie Claire and the likes – it’s no surprise that I’m super intrigued by this memoir from a Lucky beauty editor who was a functioning, but serious drug addict. This book details her double life and how she was able to get away with it, and also infuses some great humor and glamour that young adults like me love!
  1. Big Little Lies – If you’ve read The Husband’s Secret, then you know Liane Moriarty writes amazing books! I think they start out a bit slow, but once you get going – you can’t put it down! The book focuses on several seemingly perfect families trying to figure out a murder mystery in their town, but also touches on the dynamics of ex-relationships, too. The book is also a show now on HBO!
  1. The Dollhouse – This book takes place during the glamorous and glitzy 1950’s of New York, and a journalist is on the hunt to discover what big, dark secret these socialites are trying to hide.

If you’ve got any more book suggestions, please let me know below! I’m always looking to add to my list!
