What to Read in August

Happy Monday, friends! Can you guys believe it’s already August?! I’m honestly in shock and wishing I had a time machine to go back two months and start summer all over again! Anyone else?

I know I mention this in every month’s reading list, but I finally finished Big Little Lies – both the book and the series! Let me tell ya, both are pretty incredible! However, as usual, I liked the book just a bit better because there was so much more detail, but the definitely have to give the show its credit. All of the actors did such a great job, and I certainly recommend watching if you haven’t already. Have any of you guys read/seen Big Little Lies?

Anyways, one of my goals for 2017 was to increase the number of books that I would read, and while it has definitely picked up this year, it’s not to the extent that I’d like. Nonetheless, my list of books to read is never ending! I’ve got some good ones in my queue so let’s get started!

The Cuckoo’s Calling – I just started this a few days ago, and I’m already hooked within just the first few pages! I’m sure you all know J.K. Rowling wrote it under the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith, and at first I was nervous it would be super complicated like the Harry Potter books (I have each one except the first two and have never completed one book LOL), but I was pleasantly surprised it’s pretty easy to follow. It’s about a socialite who plunges to her death and everyone in town is convinced she committed suicide… everyone except her brother, that is.

My Sister’s Grave – Okay, if you’re following me on Instagram then you know that a couple weeks ago I visited the Amazon Bookstore in Chicago! You guys… it’s seriously the coolest thing EVER! The only books that make the cut are those who are highly reviewed with a 4.5 star rating, so you know that no matter what you pick up it’s going to be good. It’s even more awesome because prime members receive a special discount! The book that I purchased was My Sister’s Grave, and I’m super excited to dive in. Ever since I read Gone Girl I’ve been obsessed with murder mysteries and think they’re so fascinating.

A detective’s sister had gone missing 20 years ago and the trial that followed was always very suspect. However, as the detective digs deeper – she soon realizes that her sisters past was not as she had thought, and goes down this winding path to discovering the truth!

The Rocks – “A romantic page-turner propelled by the sixty-year secret that has shaped two families, four lovers, and one seaside resort community” (Amazon). This book takes place alongside the Mediterranean sea, and is a double love story that goes back in time to determine what this crazy mystery is. I may not be heading to the beach anytime soon, but doesn’t mean I can’t get grab a good book to transport me there, and this is the perfect one!

What are you guys reading this month?!

1.  The Cuckoo’s Calling // 2.  My Sister’s Grave // 3. The Rocks

Can’t remember the last time I finished a book. I was actually planning to get myself a good book to read this weekend. Will definitely consider your recommendations. Hope I can find time.

That’s so cool. They’re opening an Amazon book store at the Columbus Circle shops in NYC (it is probably open by now but haven’t been yet)

I wish I could make myself read more! I used to read a ton growing up and have been so bad about it as an adult. I’ve heard so many things about Big Little Lies, and think I need to check out the book/TV series!

Omg you and me both!! I used to read so much in high school, and as I’ve gotten older it’s become so much harder 🙁 But I think if you just pick up the book, the hard part is over LOL! And yes… you HAVE to at least watch the series!!
