Happy Tuesday, everyone! I’ve been gone for over an entire week due to a really bad cold, but I’m finally back and am so excited to get going again!
A couple of weeks ago my mom and I headed out on a trip down to Cincinnati, Ohio for one night. She had an oral argument at the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, and because I’ll be going to law school next year, I figured I’d tag along. Since her argument wasn’t until the next morning, we had a bit of time to walk around the city and grab a bite to eat. After the drive, we were super hungry so our first meal of the day was happy hour (it’s sort of our thing) at Palomino’s Restaurant & Bar right across from Fountain Square.
Now, I had every intention of documenting our dinner, as well, but I’m sure some of us can relate to leaving your memory card in your computer – rendering your camera completely useless. I was so upset and even tried taking pictures with my iPhone, but they didn’t turn out well… so this will be all about happy hour!Their happy hour menu was actually pretty good – with prices ranging from $5-$12 for food and about $6 for wines and cocktails. I have about three go-to drinks: whiskey & coke, cranberry & vodka (although I’m kind of over those lol), and margaritas (*insert emoji with heart eyes)! I like my margaritas on the sweet side, so I ordered the pomegranate flavor and was in love! It was perfectly sweet, with a strong taste of pomegranate. I didn’t taste the tequila too much, which I informed my mom is when that become most dangerous! I had to tell myself it wasn’t juice…
They had a variety of food options that sounded delicious, and although I was super tempted to try the truffle deviled eggs, I decided to stick with something I was almost guaranteed to love… the sicilian meatballs! Even so, one of my favorite Happy Hours close to home has the best stuffed meatballs, so I wasn’t sure how these would stack up against those, but they did not disappoint. There were at least 7 meatballs, and they were topped with pistachios (my favorite), parmesan, and loads of marinara sauce. Definitely curbed my ravenous appetite for a few hours!
My mom tried the brussel sprouts with pancetta and it was YUM-MY! I’m not a huge fan of brussel sprouts to begin with, and I definitely don’t like them too mushy, but these had that perfect amount of crisp. Bacon is one of my favorite foods, so the mixing of that bacon-flavor in the pancetta and the strong taste of brussel sprouts was absolutely divine!
Have any of you ever been to Palomino’s before? Do you go to happy hour mainly for the drinks or food (or both, like me!!)?
